Plumber’s Guide To Installing Septic Tanks

April 7, 2020

For many households around the country, a septic tank is a feature that is vital to you being able to live a comfortable and normal existence within your property.

It’s fair to say that septic tanks are the kinds of things that you only ever think about when something might be going wrong, any other time they are out of sight and out of mind!

As trusted plumbers in Dubbo, septic tanks are something that we pay lots of attention to every single day.

To help clue you in on the situation, here is a brief guide to the installation of septic tanks.

  • The first thing to do is make sure that you have enough space for the type of system that you want. You need to assess the size of the area along with the topography to make sure it is achievable.
  • The tank needs to be at least 7m away from your property, as well as not being too close to any large trees due to the sprawling roots under the ground.
  • The hole in which the tank goes will need to be approximately 2.25m deep and 1.85m wide.
  • Once the hole is sufficiently dug, the next stage is to lower the septic tank into it, making sure that it is level.
  • To stabilise it, you then need to backfill it with a large amount of something like pea gravel.
  • The final stage is to connect the tank system to your wider home system, and once you have established that the connection is in good working order with no problems, you are free to enjoy the rest of your day!

Sounds easy, right? Well, we just make it look that way! Septic tank installation isn’t for the inexperienced. Leave it to the professionals like Matt Diamond Plumbing or you might find yourself in a bit of a pickle.
