How Can I Save Money On My Water Bill?

August 8, 2022

This question is one we've been getting a lot more often lately, so today we thought we'd share our top five tips for how to save money on your water bill.

Stop That Drip

A leaking tap may not seem like that big of a deal as long as the drips don't echo throughout your entire home, but that slow, steady drip can be quite costly in the long run. Not only can those drips take a toll on the environment, as every one counts, but they'll also be hurting your back pocket, as your water company tracks all usage. The good news is that fixing a leaking tap is a straightforward process and we can get things sorted quickly for you.

Switch Out Your Faucets

If you're not making use of water saving faucets and shower heads in your home, you're probably using a lot more water than you think each time you turn one on. We can provide advice on which alternatives will be best for your home as well as quick and easy installation of your new shower heads or faucets.

Use The Dishwasher

If you have a newer dishwasher, you may be surprised to know that it's probably a lot more water efficient than washing by hand. This can save you a significant amount of money over time, especially if you wait until the dishwasher is completely full to turn it on. If you don't currently have a dishwasher, give us a call to discuss your installation options. As long as you have appropriate space, it should be pretty easy for us to get things set up so you never have to stand over the sink again.

Recycle Grey Water

Recycling your grey water can make a major difference to how much you actually need to use. For example, simply by placing a bucket in your sink while you're washing your vegetables and then using this water for your veggie garden, lawns or plants, you can cut a decent chunk off your water bill. You can make even more of a difference if you install a grey water diversion device to take care of your lawns and plants with, but you'll need to be aware that this water cannot be used on vegetable gardens and your device will need professional installation.

Fill The Washing Machine Before Use

Finally, making sure your washing machine is at capacity before you turn it on can help reduce your usage, and therefore your bill. This does mean that you'll probably have to plan your outfits a little more, but given that most people only wear about 20% of their closet anyway, you're not likely to run out of clean clothes. This can also help improve the lifespan of your washing machine, as each cycle takes its toll on the machine.
